HISTORY
Hollis & Spann has a solid history of performance that stands behind the knowledge, experience and skills of its owners and staff. Founded in 1950 as Residential and Commercial Contractors by Robert H. Hollis, Jr. of Montgomery, Alabama, the company operated as a partnership with Jerome Spann on South Alice Street in Dothan, until Spann’s death in 1965. Hollis then purchased the Spann interest and operated as Robert H. Hollis, Jr., DBA Hollis & Spann, until the company incorporated under the laws of the State of Alabama in 1968. Hollis retained the Spann name in honor of the co-founder.
In 1987, Hollis & Spann underwent a change of administration. Robert Hayne Hollis, III became president of the company, continuing a tradition of strong, progressive leadership. Under this leadership, Hollis & Spann enjoyed many years of steady, organized growth and in 2013 underwent another change of administration when vice president Glenn S. Spivey was named president. Spivey, who first started with the company in 1993 and spent 20 years rising through the ranks, brings a continuity of leadership as Hollis & Spann continues to change while meeting the demands of today’s market.
The company consistently recognizes how our economy dictates that costs be contained on projects of varying size and complexity without sacrificing quality. As a result, Hollis & Spann has become one of the most respected contracting firms in the Southeastern United States, licensed to do business in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
